The Effect of Some Reagents on the “filtrate Factor” (a Water-soluble Vitamin Belonging to the Vitamin B Complex and Preventing a Dietary Dermatitis in Chicks)

چکیده
Kline, Keenan, Elvehjem, and Hart (1) have described a syndrome produced in chicks by feeding a heated diet of natural foodstuffs. Elvehjem and Koehn (2) have described the preparation from liver of a concentrate which will prevent the syndrome. The concentrate was prepared from an aqueous extract of liver from which the flavins had been removed by adsorption on fullers’ earth and filtration. It is proposed for the sake of brevity to refer in this communication to the factor present in the concentrate as the “filtrate factor,” in reference to the method of preparation by its discoverers (1, 2). The name intentionally leaves in abeyance the question of the identity or non-identity of the factor with the rat factor vitamin Ba (3). It has been suggested by Stare (4) that the two factors may be identical, but Gyiirgy (3) reported vitamin Bg to be destroyed by visible light, while Elvehjem and Koehn (2) reported that the chick factor was not destroyed by exposure to light.

A total of 240 Japanese quail chicks (1 d old) were used in a 42-d trial to study the effects of Artichoke leaf powder and vitamin E on growth performance and meat quality. This experiment was performed as a completely randomized design with 4 replicates of 15 quails in each, using a 4×2 factorial arrangement with diet and gender as the main effects. Four dietary treatments were formulated by a...

Extended Abstract Introduction and objectives: Lactic acidosis occurs as a result of hypoxia and rapid growth of broilers and can be considered as a physiological stress. In two experiments, the effect of extra nutritional levels of vitamin D3 and guanidinoacetic acid was investigated on performance, relative weight of organs, some physiological and behavioral parameters of broiler chicks unde...

Using phytobiotics as fish feed additives has interestingly increased during the recent decade. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of individual and combined levels of thyme and vitamin E in common carp. Juveniles were separately fed four distinct diets including a control diet (commercial diet without any additive), a diet supplemented with 1% ground Shirazi thyme, diet su...
